Waterpolo - 27. July 2011.

New-look semi-finals getting underway - the results of day 6

The most unusual semi-final day in the women´s waterpolo history of FINA World Championships is held today at Shanghai, China. Here three European nations are challenged today by home team China as the first Asian representative in the top four. The four pioneer nations Netherlands, USA, Australia and Canada are just battling for the places 5-8. The run of play of all day 6 matches can be followed once more live by the digital score-sheet which is located at the right side of the screen at “competitions and results.

Up to now there was only one tournament with three medals for European teams when Hungary, Netherlands and Italy finished top at the 1994 World Championships at Rome, Italy. But here the US ladies finished fourth, and in all other tournaments USA, Australia or Canada clinched at least one medal. In 2009 there was an all-American final game between USA and Canada.
