New champions and familiar front-runners

New Zealand’s women’s football season has only just begun, while five rounds of games have been played in Germany. In Norway and Sweden, however, new champions have been crowned. FIFA.com brings you the latest from selected women’s leagues around the world.

Germany: Potsdam consolidate top spot
Following their stunning 5-0 victory in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, Turbine Potsdam’s excellent run of form continued with a 5-1 defeat of Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The win extended their unbeaten streak to five games. Lisa Evans, Julia Simic, Johanna Elsig (2) and Genoveva Anonma notched the goals for the Berlin-based club, with Ramona Petzelberger netting a consolation for Bayer from the penalty spot.

Turbine’s nearest challengers remain defending champions VfL Wolfsburg, who prevailed 4-1 at home to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim thanks to goals from Alexandra Popp, Martina Müller and Conny Pohlers (2). Hoffenheim had taken the lead through Christine Schneider, before Popp and Co. decided the points for Ralf Kellerman’s team.

Bottom club VfL Sindelfingen suffered the heaviest defeat of the day, collapsing to an 8-0 loss away at SGS Essen. Sindelfingen have now shipped as many as 29 goals in their five matches.

Top three: FFC Turbine Potsdam (13 points), VfL Wolfsburg (11), FFC Frankfurt (11)

Sweden: Malmo wrap up title
After triumphing with Germany at the 2013 UEFA Women's EURO in Sweden in July, Anja Mittag celebrated yet more success by helping LdB Malmo to Sweden’s Damallsvenskan title. In the penultimate game of the season, Malmo edged out Umea IK by a 2-0 scoreline, opening up a decisive six-point lead over Tyreso FF, with goals from Manon Melis and Sara Bjork Gunnarsdottir ensuring they could not be caught at the top of the table. Tyreso were themselves 4-1 winners over Kopparbergs/Goteborg, a result that assured them second place and automatic qualification for the Women’s Champions League.

Top three: LdB FC Malmo (54), Tyreso FF (48), Linkoping (43)

New Zealand: No surprises for Capital, Mainland and Northern
Capital Football, Mainland Pride and Northern Football all got off to perfect starts in New Zealand’s ASB Women’s League. Goals from Capital’s Briar Palmer, Emily Stotter and Michaela Robertson saw off Auckland 3-0, while Tiffany Paterson (2), Estelle Harrison and Katie Rood fired Northern to a comfortable 4-0 triumph over Footballsouth in the day’s biggest win. Mainland Pride defeated the U-17 selection 3-0 courtesy of a brace from Amy Philips and a Lauren Dabner effort, with the final game on the season’s opening day ending in a 2-2 stalemate between Central Football and Wakato/BOP Football.

Top three: Northern Football (3), Mainland Pride (3), Capital Football (3)

Norway: Stabaek crowned champions
As with their Scandinavian neighbours Sweden, Norway also have a new women’s national champion. Stabaek FK celebrated winning the Toppserien title after beating Kolbotn IL 4-1, a result that gave the team coached by Oyvind Eide an unassailable eight-point advantage at the table’s summit with just two rounds of matches remaining. Visitors Kolbotn had actually gone in front through Camilla Ose, before Melissa Wiik, Trine Ronning, Cathrine Dekkerhus and Elise Thorsnes settled the result in Stabaek’s favour. Closest pursuers Lillestrom SK slumped to a 1-0 home reverse against second-bottom club Amazon Grimstad and can now only finish in second.

Top three: Stabaek FK (54), Lillestrom SK (46), Arna-Bjornar (35)
