LISBON (POR) - LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, Members of the new FIG Acrobatic Gymnastics Technical Committee met for the first time in Lisbon (POR) after being elected in the Fall of 2008. For the 2009 – 2012 Cycle, the Committee will be presided by Tonya Case (USA), who lost no time in getting down to the business at hand. At the top of this cycle’s list of things to do, the Academies!
Portugal itself hosted the first academy ever held in Acrobatic Gymnastics on January 20 – 25, 2009. 18 participants from 9 countries (Portugal, Puerto Rico, USA, South Africa, Ireland, Great Britain, Estonia, Austria and Spain) were living proof of the universality that permeates the sport and its leaders, Rui Vinagre for the Portuguese Trampoline and Acrobatic Sports Federation and Hardy Fink, FIG Director of Education and the Academies.
In 2009, the World Games of Kaohsiung (TPE) are looking to be an important event for Acro. Gymnasts participating qualified last year at the Worlds in Glasgow (GBR) for this season’s big event. Acrobatic competitions will be going on from July 19 – 22.
