Netball Superleague leaders TeamBath set a new scoring record for the competition this weekend, in an emphatic 91-24 win over bottom side Leeds Met Carnegie. In a superb all round performance by the international-packed team, England’s Rachel Dunn and Pamela Cookey once again did the damage for the champions, with 37 and 34 goals respectively. Ahead of the May internationals against New Zealand and Australia, the pair look to be running into awesome form.

Meanwhile, second placed Brunel Hurricanes were given a scare by Northern Thunder, who have threatened an upset all season, before finally taking the points in a scrappy 42-31 victory. Missing the accuracy of former international Josie Leutton, it was once again the London side’s shooting which gave cause for concern, with the Londoners only able to convert 42 of their 75 attempts on goal, and it was left to England stars Sonia Mkoloma and Naida Hutchinson to shut down Thunder’s challenge and keep their side in second place.

The weekend’s closest game was in Cardiff, where Team Northumbria’s outside chance of a play off place remained alive, thanks to a narrow 40-36 victory over Celtic Dragons. Leading by only one goal at half time, Team Northumbria put together a solid all court performance in the second half, with excellent shooting from former England star Lisa Stanley, to edge home in a tensely fought encounter.

The final game of the weekend takes place on Monday night, when Mavericks host Loughborough Lightning. With both teams in contention for a play off spot, the encounter is likely to be tensely fought. Play starts at the Hertfordshire Sports Village in Hatfield at 7.30pm.
