Netball Singapore Results: Marlins and Stingrays fight off rivals to qualify for the finals

Marlins edged off Stingrays in the semi-finals last weekend by 4 goals to reach the NSL grand finals. Both teams wowed the crowd by putting on a physical and very exciting match that put everyone sitting on the edge of their seats. The lead changed hands for 5 times and Marlins finally pulled off in the last 2mins to win by 45-41. With this result, Marlins moved on to the finals while Stingrays had to battle with Arowanas, the winner of the other semi final draw against Mannas, on the preliminary finals.

It was yet another exciting match in the preliminary finals. Despite a hard game on saturday, Stingrays came back very strongly to hold off Arowanas by 5 goals. Stingrays led the match on all quarters but Arowanas followed closely relentlessly. Stingrays finally won the match 51-46 and will qualify for the finals on 17 May. They will meet Marlins again and will hope to create an upset against the defending champions.

The National Opens Squad and the National 21 & Under team will also be announced during the closing ceremony in the finals on 17 May. The Opens squad will be competiting in the Fisher & Paykel Nations Cup from 31 Aug to 6 Sept in Singapore. The National 21&U team will be competiting in the Asian Youth Netball Championship in Hong Kong in July 2008.
