NATIONAL INDOOR HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFIERS

National Indoor Hockey Championships – Results

Sunday 27 January 2008

The line ups for the women’s finals of the National Indoor Hockey Championships are now known. In a repeat of the 2007 women’s final, Slough and Bowdon Hightown will go head to head in the showdown which will take place at 1800hrs at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

Slough were dominant in their 7-3 victory over midlands side Olton & West Warwickshire with former England star Jane Smith scoring four of her side’s seven goals. In the other semi-final, Bowdon Hightown almost threw away a 6-1 half time lead allowing Ipswich to come back to 6-6, but Annalisa Bishop spared Bowdon’s blushes by netting the winner two minutes from time. Tina Cullen scored four for Bowdon as they booked their place in the final and will be looking to stop Slough from winning their 11th title in the past 15 years and will want to do better than their 7-4 defeat last year.

Matches will be live on Sky Sports 3.

Earlier in the day, both U16 titles were retained by last year’s winners with Belper HC 3-0 victors over Ipswich for the Girl’s U16 cup.

Kingston Grammar School made up for losing last year’s Girls U16 competition by holding aloft this year’s U18 title with Minnie James, Katie Shanahan and Harriet Tibble all bagging braces in their 6-4 win over Taunton School.
