The no.26 world ranked Candelas and Garcia prevailed against the pre-tournament favourites Kessy and Ross 2-1 (21-17, 20-22, 19-17) in an epic three-set battle.

“We are so happy with the result,” said Candelas. “We knew it was not an easy match but the motivation of the fans was important. It is a confidence builder now that we are about to start the SWATCH FIVB World Tour.”

“The third set could have gone either way,” commented Garcia. “It was so close but the good thing is that in the end the trophy stayed at home.”
