McJames Steals Aspen NorAm Win

ASPEN, CO  - Megan McJames (Park City, UT) won the first giant slalom of the women’s NorAm series Wednesday in Aspen. The women’s field was greeted with rock-hard, World Cup-like conditions racing on the same slope as the Visa Aspen Winternational, Nov. 27 and 28.

McJames beat out Canada’s Marie-Pier Prefontaine, who was wining after the first run, by 26 hundredths. Switzerland’s Esther Good came in third, winning the second run, and ending up 42 hundredths of a second off McJames.

Wednesday was McJames’ 20th NorAm Cup podium, 11th NorAm Cup win and fourth NorAm Cup GS win.

The Swiss women flooded the top-10 grabbing third through seventh.  The next American women to finish were Vanessa Berther (Bellevue, WA) in 11th and Kiley Staples (Park City, UT) in 12th.  University of Colorado’s Katie Hartman (Sacramento, CA) rounded out the top 15 for the American’s in 13th.

The ladies will complete the Colorado NorAm series Thursday with a final giant slalom.
