Manchester’s Kelly Tidy (right) won the U21 trophy at the Welsh ladies’ open strokeplay championship at Newport.
Kelly, who is the English U15 champion, was making her debut in the event and finished third overall, behind Scottish international Heather MacRae and Australian Bronwyn Mullins-Lane.
“I was really pleased because it was the first time I’d played in this championship,” said Kelly, 15. Her play was notable for her accuracy into the greens – she almost holed a couple of shots – and she was four or five-under for the par threes.
Rachel Connor, 16, also a member at Manchester, was fourth while a number of other English players recorded high finishes. They included Holly Aitchison, the Portuguese ladies’ champion from Bedfordshire, and Liz Bennett, the English strokeplay champion from Brokenhurst Manor in Hampshire.
