The Women's Basketball national team made it three out of three after a 60-41 victory against Wales in.the third game in the FIBA Europe Division C championship which is being played in Luxembourg
Malta confirmed it’s superiority in this start of the competition despite the fact that coaches Santino Coppa and Sandro Farrugia used all the players for this game and giving ample time to those players who so far played less than the others.
Again the starting five for Malta were Loretta Ellul, Rebecca Brincat Thoresen, Doreen Micallef, Christina Grima and Josephine Grima. Josephine Grima continued on the previous game against Scotland and ended as Malta’s top scorer with 20 points and also featured 10 rebounds. Once again the Maltese girls had a good start for the game and went 10-3 ahead mid-way through the first quarter. A basket by Rebecca Brincat Thoresen ended the first period on 16-5 score for Malta. After increasing the lead to 28-11, there was a short come-back from Wales however at halftime it was still 31-16. Some turnovers in the third quarter helped the Welsh to decrease the deficit to 15 points 47-32 at the end of the session. However, the Maltese players kept the rhythm for a final score of 60-41.
The Maltese contingent will have a day's rest on Thursday before they face Andorra in the semi-finals. Andorra lost only one game in their group against hosts Luxembourg 28-58 and won against Azerbaijan 67-35 and Gibraltar 53-45.
