Madison McLeish wins her first carer Coupe Nor-Am Cup in Panorama Super-G

Kelly McBroom skied her way on the third step of the podium

PANORAMA, BC - Madison McLeish, (Calgary,AB) who has been on the  Alberta Ski Team for the last two years, skied her way on the highest step of the podium in today's super-G event in Panorama, BC for the first time in her career. She clocked in a time of one minute 27.17.

The athlete who suffered from a concussion last October during training in Austria was not expecting the result she had at the Northwest Funds Coupe Nor-Am Cup today.

"I'm quite ecstatic to be honest. I was not expecting this result at all. Because if my concussion in October I couldn't ski for six weeks and I've been back on snow for two weeks now. I've been on my super-G skis twice before today's race, so it's definitely a surprise," said McLeish.

With all the snow that fell in Panorama yesterday an enormous amount of work from the volunteers, coaches and athletes was needed to execute the race today.

"The course today was good and turned a lot, especially across the flats. Everyone was wondering how it would be because of all the snow that fell in the last couple of days, we all thought it would be a little rough. The course workers did an amazing job the last two days and the course was perfect," added McLeish.

Second place in the ladies category was secured by USA's Julia Ford who stepped on the podium twice in the downhill events in Lake Louise, AB Coupe Nor-Am Cup last week with a first and third place. She crossed the finish line with a time of 1:27.38

The podium was completed with another Canadian, Kelly McBroom (Calgary, AB) who finished with a time of 1:27.81.
