LPGA State Farm Classic raises more than $288,000 for area charities through 2010 tournament-First year of Birdies for Charity effort raises $23,000 for participating charities
SPRINGFIELD, IL. – The LPGA State Farm Classic distributed $288,761 to Central Illinois charity organizations today during a presentation event at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield. The money, raised at the 35th Anniversary Tournament in June, will support the efforts of many area charities including Inner City Mission, St. John’s Children’s Hospital and UCP Land of Lincoln. The money raised this year includes $23,000 generated through the Birdies for Charity effort, a new fundraising initiative which allowed any charities to solicit pledges for birdies made during the tournament.“I can’t think of a better way to wrap up our 35th Anniversary year.
Thanks to our supporters and sponsors, we were able to increase charity donations from last year’s tournament by 35 percent and help a record number of charities,” LPGA State Farm Classic Tournament Chair Desiree Logsdon said. “Year after year, the community along with our sponsors, make it possible for the LPGA State Farm Classic to make a significant impact on organizations dedicated to helping communities all over Central Illinois and we’re grateful for their support.”
The $288,761 in charitable contributions from the 2010 LPGA State Farm Classic brings the total amount of contributions made to area charities since 1980 to nearly $3.5 million. In 2010, the tournament once again increased the number of primary charities that receive donations to 17, up from 14 in 2009 and 11 in 2008.“Our partners understand the strain many charity organizations have been under over the last few years, bringing in fewer donations and serving more people in need in a struggling economy.
Once again, they have gone above and beyond to support the organizations that help thousands in Central Illinois and we are thankful for their commitment to the Tournament and the community,” said LPGA State Farm Classic Executive Director Kate Peters.“State Farm is proud to support this Tournament and help the charities who make such a measurable difference in our communities,” said Todd Fischer Manager of National Sponsorships for State Farm®. “This event: the staff, players, fans, volunteers and spectators have become a big part of the State Farm family over the last 17 years and we’re grateful for the efforts everyone put into this event to make it such a tremendous success.”
