Lisa Marr Scores Her First 2008 Win at College Station

Fast Eddie’s College Station, TX was the host site for the 5th OB Cues Ladies 9-Ball Tour stop this year. The venue, the staff, the weather, everything was perfect for the August 16-17th weekend setting and the players were out in full force with a strong field present to commence battle for the guaranteed 1st place prize money of $750. As the players started showing up Saturday morning, it was anybody’s guess who would take the top prize. Tour regulars and top picks for the weekend were Amanda Lampert, Heather Lloyd, Lisa Marr, Bonnie Plowman, just to name a few.

This 5th tour stop also had a welcome surprise on Saturday morning when none other than Iris Ranola, from the Philippines, fresh from her 2nd place finish at the recent U.S. Open, just happened to quietly sneak in for her first time challenge with some of our tour regulars. Iris was on a quest seeking a chance at the WPBA Pacific Coast Qualifier. As was overhead by some of the players and fans, Iris was wondering if she stood at chance at winning the event. Iris, small in stature but big in heart and game, yes indeed did have a chance at winning the event and it was with great pleasure that our OB Cues Tour ladies welcomed her for her first time event.

So after the player’s meeting and the tournament draw and brackets had been completed, everyone was anxiously waiting to hear who would be the lucky opponent to take on Iris. And as luck would have it, none other than one of OB Cues Tour favorite Little Rock Arkansan, Lisa Marr, would endure the pleasure (or not) for playing against Iris in the first round. It was Lisa who was carrying the big stick and taking no prisoners all weekend and she had other plans for Iris. Lisa’s quest was the prize money as she would use it to help spoil her grandbabies and she knew she had to shoot lights out to achieve her goal. Lo and behold, this is exactly Lisa did all weekend. In her 1st match against Iris, both players were fighting for the win and as it should be for both of these champions, it came down to a hill-hill match with Lisa coming out on top. Lisa continued her winning ways in the Main Event to return for Sunday. Others returning undefeated through Saturday would be Heather Lloyd vs. Michelle Yim and Melinda Bailey vs. Lisa Marr. On the other side of the bracket and still contenders in the Main Event would be Amanda Lampert vs. Ricki Lee Casper and Bonnie Plowman vs. Iris Ranola.

Both Bonnie and Iris were the only two players left vying for the WPBA Pacific Coast qualifier. So with this added pressure, it was game on for them both early Sunday morning. With awesome shot-making and defensive safety playmaking when needed, Bonnie emerged as the victor with a score of 7-5. Congrats Bonnie for your qualifier win and best of luck at Lincoln City, OR!

As the day progressed and the finals were set, it was Heather vs. Lisa with Heather having to take down Lisa not once, but twice in this true double elimination format. Earlier on Sunday, Heather and Lisa played for the hot seat and Lisa won with a score of 7-5. Lisa proved to be unstoppable all weekend with the following wins: Lisa vs. Iris 7-6; Lisa vs. Terry Petrosino 7-3; Lisa vs. tour board member and tournament director Melinda Bailey 7-0; Lisa vs. Heather 7-5 and then again in the finals against Heather 7-3. Congratulations Lisa for your big win! You rock baby!

Becky Jones, another OB Cues Tour favorite Little Rock, Arkansan, has been turning in some high finish performances for herself. She finished 9th-12th which is her highest Main Event finish ever. Becky, awesome job, keep up the great shooting! Also Michelle Yim, from Houston, finished 5th/6th with her highest Main Event finish ever. Michelle, you are da bomb!!!
