LG Rhythmic Gymnastics International

LG Rhythmic Gymnastics International

On Saturday, 7th and Sunday, 8th April 2007 the Fenton Manor Leisure Complex in Stoke-on-Trent will see one of the most spectacular Rhythmic Gymnastics competitions ever staged in this country; the 1st LG International, with the participation from 7 countries: Russia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Great Britain.

As an Olympic discipline, Rhythmic Gymnastics in Great Britain is very much advancing with one eye on the London Olympics in 2012. It will be therefore, be very intriguing to see the some of the most talented Juniors from the above countries, competing alongside the Senior gymnasts (maximum 2 per country), all of whom would hope to make their way through to Beijing 2008.

Great Britain will be represented by the top two Seniors in the last year’s British Championships, Francesca Jones (Nene Valley RGC, East Midlands) and Heather Mann (Southview RGC, West Sussex)), competing alongside the most talented British Juniors: Francesca Fox (City of Bath, South West), Maria Popova (Spelthorne RGC, Middlesex), Jade Faulkner (Esprit, South West), Rachel Smith (City of Coventry RGC, Midlands) and Kezi Gore (City of Canterbury R G C, South East).

Saturday, 7th April will see the All-around and the Team event, while on Sunday; the top 8 gymnasts on each piece of apparatus will compete in the Apparatus Finals. The Senior’s will perform with Rope, Hoop, Clubs and Ribbon and the Juniors, with the same apparatus apart from the Hoop, which will be replaced by Ball.

Joan Black, British Gymnastics’ RG Technical Committee Chair said:
“Following the setback of having to forego the opportunity to host an International event for two years, due to lack of funding, the Rhythmic Gymnastics Technical Committee are delighted to be able to stage the 1st LG International in Fenton Manor. The opportunity to do this is primarily due to the wonderful support being given to us by LG Electronics, for which we are extremely grateful”.

LG Electronics’ fantastic 7-year support, up to the 2012 Games, means that Great Britain have improved their chances to raise the standards of the sport in this country, organise International events and share experiences with other countries in the world.

The event will be broadcast Live on BGTV (www.bgtv.biz) on Sunday, 8th April from 1:30 pm.
