Lancashire’s Cori Lee was the impressive winner of the Leveret, the first of the season’s prestigious scratch events, which was played in icy winds at Formby Ladies.
Cori, a member at West Lancashire, had scores of 71, 70 to win this title for the second time.
She finished four strokes clear of the highest-quality field ever to take part in the Leveret. Of the 54 competitors, 20 were off scratch or better and the highest handicap was three.
Cori was chased all the way by her playing partner, England girl international Holly Clyburn of Woodhall Spa, who hit the flagstick three times in the afternoon round without the ball ever disappearing. Only two shots separated the players with four holes remaining but Cori finished strongly to widen the gap.
Yorkshire’s Emma Brown took third place while 14-year-old Emily Taylor did much to impress the selectors by finishing fourth. Emily, from Royal Lytham & St Annes, is a member of the English Women’s Golf Association Select North Squad and was promoted from the reserve list into the field at short notice
English U13 champion Charley Hull also displayed her talent to play herself into a tie for sixth place. Charley, from Kettering, is 13 and has a handicap of three.
