Kristiina Nisula Wins 5Star Red Bull Nanshan Open Women’s Contest
The Red Bull Nanshan open is in full swing; it was a long day for the Women with their qualifiers and finals both wrapping up today. This is the 11th edition of the event and the first year to have female competitors. Seven female riders attended China’s only 5Star event and only four made it through to the final round.
Finland’s Kristiina Nisula took first place with a run that was both flawless and technical; she will be going home with $6000 USD and 850 World Snowboard Tour Points. Her first run was her highest score (86 points) and consisted of a frontside Rodeo 720 and a backside 360 on the jump section. On the rail features Nisula did an impressively clean 50/50 tail slide and a hardway 50/50 on the down rail. In her second run she attempted a frontside 900 to fend off the other competitors but was unable to successfully execute it. “It’s a great experience being here and seeing China” Nisula said about her trip “I am thrilled with how my run went and am proud to be up here with these girls.” She added.
Cecilia Larsen from Sweden came in second with a 76.3; she did cab 540 mute and a backside 180 on the jumps, and a half cab 50/50 and a nosepress on the rail section. This second place finish has bumped her into a top ten position on the World Snowboard tour Rankings for Women’s Slopestyle.
China’s own Hong Zhu made the podium in third place with a frontside 360, a backside 180 and a 50/50 on the first rail feature. She did a 50/50 on the last rail to secure her podium finish. The 24 year old was the only Chinese rider in the Women’s field and scored a 64.3 for her performance.
