Kovacs becomes European Junior Pentathlon Champion

Sarolta Kovacs (HUN) has continued her fantastic season to win the Junior European Championships in Drzonkow, Poland. Local favourite Joanna Gomolinska (POL) won silver and British Freyja Prentice sprinted herself to bronze.

Kovacs who also won the silver medal at the recent Senior World Championships started the day well finishing 7th in the fencing behind her team mate Adrienn Toth (HUN) and Youth Olympic Games athlete  Gloria Tocchi (ITA).

Swimming specialist Kovacs who generally win’s the swim in the senior events had to settle for 2nd behind the other of her team mates Zsofia Foldhazi (HUN). This moved her to the top position after 2 events.

The Junior World Champion had a great ride only knocking off one rail which put her on the top of the leaders board to start 1st in the combined event.

Kovacs then shot brilliantly and ran well to storm to her 1st Junior European title. Prentice on her way to the bronze medal produced an extraordinary combined event to win it by 8 seconds.

Kovacs’s 1st place led the Hungarian team to the teams gold together with Adrienn Toth, who finished 6th and former Youth A World Champion Zsofia Foldhazi who had a great day finishing in 8th. Great Britain won silver and Germany bronze.
