Kate Moloney announced as Australian captain for the Fast5 World Series

Netball Australia has announced Kate Moloney as captain of the Australian Fast5 team, who will compete at the Fast5 Netball World Series at Hisense Arena, Melbourne October 28-29.

Moloney’s speed, agility and presence on the court is a perfect fit for the Fast5 format with this year’s series being her third Fast5 series representing Australia.

Leading the Australian team at the Fast5 Netball World Series caps off a momentous year for the 24 year old, who captained the Melbourne Vixens to the Suncorp Super Netball minor premiership and made her debut for the Samsung Australian Diamonds in last week’s third Constellation Cup test in Adelaide.

Moloney is excited to lead the Australian side in the series, to be held again in her hometown.

“I’m honoured to be named captain of the Australian Fast5 team. It’s such a young, up and coming group and I can’t wait for everyone to see some new names on the world stage.

“It’s so special being able to walk out in front of a home crowd and really feed off their energy, especially in such a lively tournament.

“Our eyes are on the prize, we’d love to take out the title in front of the home crowd.”

Head coach, Stacey Marinkovich congratulated Kate on her captaincy.

“I’m so excited to have Kate leading the Australian Fast5 team after such an impressive year captaining the Vixens in a successful Suncorp Super Netball season, and making her debut for the Diamonds just last week.

“Her experience having played in the Fast5 Netball World Series for the last two years makes her a great leader for the young group we have.

“We can’t wait to have this team out their representing Australia, bringing flair to the court with some old and new faces. We’ve been planning and preparing to give us the best opportunity to make sure the trophy doesn’t go anywhere.”

Moloney will lead Australia as they take on the world’s best netballing nations; New Zealand, England, Jamaica, Malawi and South Africa.

With dynamic rules changes, including; five players-a-side, shortened quarters, multiple point shots and double point power plays, Fast5 netball is sure to have the crowd on the edge of their seats.

General admission tickets for this year’s Fast5 Netball World Series are available now via Ticketek.
