Kari Schibevaag is crowned Most Influential Girl Kitesurfer 2011

Inaugural “Most Influential Girl Kitesurfer” competition celebrates its first winner.

After weeks of heated competition inMotion Kitesurfing and Jessica Winkler are proud to reveal the winner of the first Most Influential Girl Kitesurfer competition 2011. Congratulations to Kari Schibevaag.

From Stavanger, Norway, Kari took over 1000 public votes to win the title. She has been competing in snowkiting and kitesurfing for many years, winning world titles in both. For the past number of years she has been running girls kiting camps both in and outside of Norway. She is doing fantastic work for the community and the sport and is a great role model for other girl kiters out there.

Kari says: “When I am holding camps it’s cool to see how happy people get when they are trying it for the first time. It’s amazing and I see myself in them. I was just the same, full power and really wanting to learn.”

Along with her title, Kari will receive prizes courtesy of generous sponsors Fuel Clothing, Litewave Kiteboards and Hookit.

With over 4,200 votes cast, it was a very tough competition, with the leader board changing several times. Congratulations to all other finalists, with a special mention for Audrey Meyer and Sandrine Roussos Werner who came second and third respectively.

Whether it’s a pioneering woman in the industry or an amazing athlete, the competition aims to promote girls in kitesurfing.

As an industry often dominated by men, the Most Influential Girl Kitesurfer competition shines the spotlight on girls around the world doing extraordinary things for the sport and their communities. Each finalist reflects the talent, dedication and great attitude that keep this industry vital and growing.

The competition was run in two phases. In the first phase anyone could nominate a girl they think is doing something extraordinary, from which the top 10 finalists were then picked by a panel of judges. In the second phase voting was opened to the public to determine the winner.
