Brazilian beach volleyball stars Juliana Felisberta and Larissa França completed an outstanding 2011 season by winning the Brazilian Banco do Brasil Tour for the fifth time after topping the podium at the penultimate event in Joa Pessoa, Paraiba last Sunday.
Joao “Billy” Maciel and Bruno Schmidt won the men’s edition of the stop.
The national titles complete a perfect season for Larissa/Juliana, who also won FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour, FIVB Swatch World Championship and Pan American Games.
“I am really glad with our fifth title,” Juliana, who also named as the FIVB Swatch World Tour Most Outstanding Player Saturday week, said. “This was a very tough season and we very tired now. But, winning every competition we played make us feel that all worth.”
Juliana and Larissa needed to only play the tournament in Cabo Branco beach to be assured of the title, but the tandem went well beyond that as they saw off Talita Antunes and Maria Elisa Antonelli 2-0 (25-23,21-16) to top the podium in Joao Pessoa for the fifth time.
“This was an amazing week as we clinched the points title on Friday and now, two days after it, we won the tournament. My nephew Enzo asked me for the gold medal and I give it to him. I am glad as we are getting to the end of our best season of our careers,” added Larissa.
Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas reached the podium for the first time together by defeating Thati Damasio and Andrezza Martins 2-0 (21-14 and 21-16) in the third place match.
In the men’s tournament, Joao “Billy” Maciel and Bruno Schmidt won their second title of the season by defeating Ricardo Santos and Pedro Cunha, who live in Joao Pessoa and counted on the support of the fans that crowded the arena, in straight sets (21-16, 21-18)
“Topping the podium with two fantastic teams and Alison/Emanuel and Ricardo/Cunha on our sides is a real privilege and we are very happy for that. We worked really hard to win this tournament,” said Bruno, who completed 200 victories alongside Maciel in the gold medal match.
Banco do Brasil tour champions Alison Cerutti and FIVB Swatch World Tour 2011 Most Outstanding Player Emanuel Rego finished third after overcoming Dagoberto “Juca” Dultra and Hevaldo Moreira 2-0 (21-15, 21-11).
