KANGWONLAND, KOR (February 16th, 2008) – Kimberly Joines (Edmonton, AB) bounced back quickly from disappointment yesterday to win today’s IPC World Cup giant slalom race in Kangwonland, KOR.
Joines, who competes in the Ladies sitting category, had a winning two-run combined time of two minutes 25.43 seconds.
“The snow here in Korea is near perfect for racing, it’s very grippy, hard and extremely smooth,” said Joines, who did not finish yesterday’s super combined. “The race run is a little flatter than we would like, but allows us to really attack every gate.”
In the Ladies standing category, Lauren Woolstencroft (North Vancouver, BC / Calgary, AB) won again in a time of 2:16.90 with Karolina Wisniewska (Vancouver, BC / Calgary, AB) and Andrea Dziewior (Nanaimo, BC) in 5th and 8th place respectively.
Kathleen Forestell (Ottawa, ON) and guide Michel Sebastien finished second in the Ladies visually impaired category.
“After the first run I was just over a second off of my competition. Unfortunately, I made an error in the second run that cost me a few seconds,” said Forestall.
The IPC World Cup event continues tomorrow in Kangwonland, KOR with another giant slalom race and then finishes with a slalom race on Monday.
