Janyk finishes eighth for third Top 10 of DH season

ST. MORITZ, SUI (December 15th, 2007)

Janyk, who wore the red bib as the Downhill leader in today’s race, finished with a time of one minute 40.62 seconds.

“I am really happy to be right in there with another solid top 10 result. This was my first time running the Downhill in St. Moritz. It’s a great track here, the snow is really aggressive and you have to be really smooth,” said Janyk.

The race can be seen on CBC’s Pontiac Alpine Ski Series at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Two-time overall World Cup champion Anja Paerson of Sweden won today’s race in a time of 1:39.32 with American Lindsey Vonn second and Maria Riesch third.

Emily Brydon (Fernie, BC) placed 15th while Kelly VanderBeek (Kitchener, ON) finished 22nd. Sherry Lawrence (Calgary, AB) did not race after injuring her right knee in training. She is returning to Calgary for further treatment of the injury.

Janyk has two World Cup DH podiums this season including her stunning win last week in Aspen, USA.

“It was pretty cool to wear the red bib but I didn’t really think about it much. It felt normal and I approached it as just another race,” said Janyk. “I definitely have my eye on (the standings) but more importantly I have to concentrate on going out there performing during the race. It is a long season and if I start focusing on stuff like that the season will get even longer.”

Ladies World Cup racing in St. Moritz continues tomorrow with a Ladies Super G.

Vonn will be wearing the leader’s red bib when Ladies World Cup Downhill racing resumes in St. Anton/Arlberg, AUT Dec. 21st. A Super Combined race takes place a day later.
