Investec Women's Hockey League update

CANTERBURY drew level with leaders Reading when they battled to a 2-1 win over visitors Surbiton in the Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Canterbury’s men had beaten Surbiton and the women made it a double celebration with goals from Jen Wilson and Kim Young cancelling out Vicky Bryant’s early strike for Surbiton.

Reading left the way open for Canterbury to go level on points at the top as they could only manage a 1-1 draw with Clifton. Els Mansell scored for Clifton before Alex Danson restored parity for the visitors.

Goals from Holly Hunt, Natalie Wray and Tina Cullen saw Bowdon Hightown move up to third in the table after a 3-2 victory over Sutton Coldfield.

Leicester continued their climb up the table with a 2-1 win over struggling Beeston. Jo Hunter got Leicester off the mark on 18 minutes before Eleanor Whatton equalised. But just three minutes later, Leicester regained the lead through Hannah Fair.

University of Birmingham had just one win going into today’s game but they hit six past Olton with no reply. Lily Owsley and Liz George nabbed a brace each with Olivia Chilton and Emily Defroand scoring the other goals.

East Grinstead closed the gap at the top of the Investec Conference East by inflicting a first defeat of the season on Holcombe. A brace from Heather Batten did the damage but Holcombe still have a four-point cushion at the top.

Slough have replaced Buckingham as the leaders of the Investec Conference West after beating Oxford Hawks 4-0. Nora Ilkei, Leanne King, Kelly Morgan and Charly Brydon all found the target.

It’s another week at the top of the Investec Conference North for University of Durham as they beat Kendal 4-2. Laura Bevan led the scoring for Durham with a brace as Philippa Lewis and Camilla McWhirter also found the goal.  That’s 19 points for the unbeaten university outfit now.
