Investec Women's Hockey League

Leicester finished the Investec Women’s Hockey League at the top of the Premier Division table after beating relegated Slough 4-1 on Saturday.

The victory means Leicester will play in Europe next season, and will face fourth-placed Surbiton in the first semi final on April 20 at Reading’s Sonning Lane ground.

However, Leicester struggled to get a grip on the game, with Slough denying their rivals the lead until the 27th minute when Julia Karwatzky scored from a penalty corner.

Slough hit back on 53 minutes through Amy Sheehan, only for Karwatzky to give Leicester the lead again two minutes later. Sandy Yeates bagged a third for Leicester, and Hannah Smith finished off the win with a fourth on 68 minutes.

In the relegation play-off, Chelmsford boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation from the Investec Conference East when they won 4-0 over Staines on Saturday in their first play-off match.
