The Sea Hawaii Girls Who Surf Pro-Am 05-August-2008

"The Sea Hawaii Girls Who Surf Pro-Am"
$5,000.00 ASP Women's Pro Jr., Open & Amateur
August 16-17, 2008,  Kewalo Basin Park, Oahu, Hawaii

The statue of the Pueo (owl) at Kewalo Basin Park stands as protector of the Kakaako area.  It will be looking over contestants at the 3rd annual One Love Surf Shop presents the Sea Hawaii Girls Who Surf Contest August 16-17th. This year Girls Who Surf teamed up with the ASP, Association of Surfing Professionals and Banzai Productions to host an all Women's Pro-Am contest with $5,000.00 in cash and prizes. There will be a $2,500.00 ASP Women's Pro Jr. rated event as well as an open shortboard and longboard contest with prize money. Contest organizers are hoping to include a pro division in bodyboarding to round out the all girls event. "This is going to be an awesome event that allows not only the pros, but the amazing amateur girls to compete in a killer spot, in a fun laid back atmosphere. " said Girls Who Surf Co-Director, Molly Mattson. "We want girls to come out, shred, and just have a good time, especially if it's their first competition experience."

Hawaii's best Jr. Surfers will be on hand including Carissa Moore, Alessa Quizon, and Coco Ho. The ASP's Jr. division is growing throughout the World and is the future of Hawaii's contingent. This event precedes the Outrigger Duke's Oceanfest where a Roxy longboard Pro competition is scheduled. Several of the pro girls will be on hand for the open longboard contest, including Pipeline Champion Leah Dawson and current World Champion Joy Monahan. This should be a good battle at a wave that never disappears. Kewalo Basin is known for its consistency. The location is nestled next to the Harbor entrance where shallow water jumps up before the deep blue of the channel.

Banzai Productions will be celebrating the one year anniversary of "Wahine Blue TV" and the Launch of FLHI Girl Sports TV on OC16, two all Women's sports shows in Hawaii. The first ever "FLHI Girlz Trick Expression Session" will be included with an additional prize purse. Kewalos surf break is the perfect place to try 360, air, and who knows what maneuvers because of the quick lift launching pad where there is a good boosting potential for these moves.

SeaHawaii, www.seahawaii.com, a local water sports apparel company is the proud sponsor. "As a company founded in Hawaii, locally owned and operated SeaHawaii is particularly privileged to support our women athletes who have contributed so much to this sport over the years" stated Joe Pickard, owner of SeaHawaii. "The goal of SeaHawaii, a native Hawaiian owned company, is to bring awareness to the drastic ecological changes occurring in our oceans. We are excited to be a part of this year's event.

Presenting the contest is One Love Surf Shop located in Haleiwa Hawaii. "I always wanted to have a surf team and sponsor a contest. Now I have this opportunity to support the Women through my shop, I am excited", expressed Gina Wardrop One Love Surf Shop Owner.  "This will be a good mix of all the girls who surf!" says "Banzai" Betty Depolito. "Sea Hawaii has come on board to make sure we can accommodate all the Women in this event. My goal is to keep fueling the pros with travel money to represent Hawaii around the world, we have such great surfers here!" Contest officials are also expecting Wahine from other countries to make the trip here to compete.
