Ice-Hockey Minnesota Duluth Women's Preseason No. 1 in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll

University of Minnesota Duluth Selected as Preseason No. 1
in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll

 

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Defending national champion University of Minnesota Duluth earned the top spot on the preseason USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women’s College Hockey Poll. The Bulldogs accumulated all 19 first-place votes for 190 points to top last year's national runner-up, the University of Wisconsin (162), and the University of Minnesota (135).


The University of New Hampshire (125) and Harvard University (119) rounded out the top five.

The 2008-09 regular season kicks off this Friday, September 26, as No. 2 University of Wisconsin takes on Quinnipiac University.

NOTES: This marks the fourth time the University of Minnesota Duluth has been ranked No. 1 (2001-02, 2002-03 and 2003-04) on the first USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women’s College Hockey Poll of the season ... The Western Collegiate Hockey Association and Hockey East lead all conferences with three teams on the poll ... A total of 16 teams received votes.


ABOUT THE POLL: The 12th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women’s College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the American Hockey Coaches Association and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
