Honiton gymnasts scoop four medals at regional prelims

Gymnasts from Honiton Gym Club were on winning form again at the weekend, scooping four medals and recording a whole host of other impressive results.

Buster was also on top form with mixed pair partner Charlotte Beviss, taking silver in the grade 1 mixed pair event, scoring 24.13.

Buster was also on top form with mixed pair partner Charlotte Beviss, taking silver in the grade 1 mixed pair event, scoring 24.13.  And in the same event, a very promising first performance together was also put in by Megan Quick and Callum Abbott who finished in fifth position with a score of 22.55.

Charlotte Beviss was also in action in the Grade 2 girls’ pair competition with partner Megan Moore.  They showed huge improvements since their performance at the Bristol Open three weeks ago, scoring 24.50 and finishing in the bronze medal position, against 25 other girls’ pairs.

High performance coach Helen Nayler said: “Some of our elite level gymnasts have moved up to compete solely in the international grades, which means they pre-qualify for the national finals.  As a result, we’ve had less gymnasts than usual competing in the national development plan prelims.  Despite this though, our results have once again been excellent.  Our up-and-coming partnerships are showing time and again that they have the potential to get to the top.”

In the grade 2 girls’ trio event, Mylissa Jones, Danni Hartland and Charlotte Hartland wowed the crowed with some impressive moves, but a couple of errors pushed them out of the medals and into 4th place. It was a similar story for the grade 1 girls trio of Sharna Curly, Becky Lawrence, and Becky Fullard, who also finished in fourth, just 0.2 behind third place. And in the grade 3 girls’ trio event Cerys Mack, Mess Iley and Charlotte Bowen took fifth position.

Honiton Gym Club now has five groups for all levels of ability, from Gym Crazy Kids and recreational classes through to competition and squad acrobatics groups.  To find out more visit www.honitongymclub.org, call Helen Nayler on 07825 181693, or ask for further details at Honiton Sports Centre.
