Haynes stormes to Central Gauteng Open Title

haynes.jpg

Local Qualifier Diana Haynes stormed to the Central Gauteng Open title,
beating South African number one Siyoli Waters in straight games in the
final.

Haynes, 31, had shown good form all week,  coming through qualifying to take
out three seeds on her way to the final, including fighting back from two
games to one down against top seed Kylie Lindsay in the semi finals.

Waters looked comfortable in her path to the 8th WSA final of her career.
She followed up two 3-0 wins with a 3-1 win over Egyptian Salma Nassar in
the semi finals.

The favourite going into the final may have appeared to be Waters, but it
was in fact Haynes who had won the pairs prior meeting in the final of the
South African Nationals last August. Haynes once again had the edge, this
time just managing to stay ahead at the end of each game to close out a
tightly contested final and capture her first WSA title.

All the players move onto play the NSA Open in Pretoria this week, except
Haynes who unfortunately had with withdraw with a shin splints injury. With
a similar draw in place can Waters go one better?
