Great Britain Hockey has today released the names of the 24 athletes who will be training towards the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The training squad is subject to an ongoing assessment and review and a further eight athletes will be monitored via the respective Home Nation programmes.

The squad includes six uncapped players by Great Britain, three of whom are yet to receive a cap for their respective Home Nation. Charlotte Craddock (17), Susie Gilbert (18) and Sam Quek (18) are all uncapped by England and Great Britain. Laura Bartlett (17) who has 17 Scottish caps, Jo Ellis (23 – Bowdon Hightown) who has 18 English caps and Hayley Brown (20) who has six English caps are all yet to earn their first Great Britain appearance. All players, with the exception of Ellis, were part of the Great Britain Youth squad who won the gold medal at the 2007 Australian Youth Olympic Festival.

21 of the selected players will travel to Salta in Argentina for training and five Test Matches later this month. Three of the 24 athletes are unavailable through either work commitments or illness
