GB's Cycling Storey Factored out of the medals

USA's Jennifer Schuble won the women's 500 m  LC1 / CP4 cycling time trial in world record (CP4 time ) of 40.278 secs with a trio of Chinese athletes behind in 2nd , 3rd and 4th and  the GB star (  who amazingly  crossed over from world class Paralympic swimming)   Sarah Storey, nee Bailey , coming home in a creditable  5th.

This was  a mixed category  race and thus  essentially disadvantaged Storey who was out of the medals when factoring came into play. Storey was contesting her first Paralympic Games as a cyclist but could only finish fifth in 38.356 even though her time was faster than the eventual winner. Sarah told journalists" This year I've done a PB every time I've raced the 500m." "I clocked a 39.4 at the world championships and then at the European masters in July a 39.1 so I'm really pleased with my time here. My second lap was stonking at 15.7 and a low 38 is a great ride."

There is still chance for Storey to win a medal in Beijing as she goes in the women's individual pursuit (once again a mixed LC1-2/CP4) and the women's time trial (LC1-2/CP4) road race later in the week. Meanwhile, earlier today, Sarah's hubby Barney took  shared gold guiding visually impaired Anthony Kappes to victory in the 1 Km time trial in a blazing world record time .The duo powered through in one minute 2.864 seconds, ahead of Australia's Ben Demery and Shaun Hopkins.
