Welcome to the first diary piece from Great Britain handball player Kelsi Fairbrother, who plays professionally in Denmark.

“The pre season months have been a stressful time for me, but have eventually worked out ok.

At the beginning of the year I was not sure whether I could remain in Denmark due to our funding being reduced, but I knew this was the right place for me to be, so me and my head coach Jesper Holmris worked hard on getting me some trials.

Welcome to the first diary piece from Great Britain handball player Kelsi Fairbrother, who plays professionally in Denmark.
“I travelled two hours to the north of the country to see and meet the team that were showing interest in me, TST Hjorring. Straight away I knew the coach was great and I was so happy when he asked to consider signing with his team after being so stressed about whether I would have to go home. This was a great relief and after a night of thinking I agreed and signed!

“Things were looking up and as I went home for my summer holiday it was the best I’d ever felt in my handball career as I had finally reached the point of singing a pro contract!

“As I carried on with my training and preparation for my return to Denmark, I was unfortunately told of financial difficulties at my new team was in. My club that had seemed so perfect was, in fact, no more and the club has now been terminated.

“Again I was faced with the uncertainty of what was going to happen with my handball and also my life!

“But thankfully it wasn’t long before I was hearing from a few other clubs - one of which was Frederikshavn FOX. I had known of this team as since arriving in Denmark as they have been up and down between 1st division and the pro liga.

“I have now signed with FOX and am enjoying the beginning of my professional handball career. It’s very different to anything I’ve ever done before as I’m living alone in a place I have never been before but my new team mates are great girls and I feel at home already!

“Fox is an ambitious club, full of very young players who all want to achieve the same goal playing in the best league in Denmark and already I feel we have a very strong team and I am sure we will get there! So bring on the season!

I hope you liked my first diary piece! I will write more soon.
