FULL HOUSE FOR CONSTELLATION CUP DECIDER

The Constellation Cup test match this Sunday at Perth’s RAC Arena will be played in front of a full house.

Netball Australia CEO Marne Fechner confirmed that the final tickets for this year’s series decider between the Samsung Diamonds and the New Zealand Silver Ferns were sold today.

Sunday’s crowd will likely set a new crowd record for an international netball game in Western Australia, which currently stands at 12,365.

This is the first time the Samsung Diamonds have played in Perth since the 2015 Constellation Cup at Perth Arena (now known as RAC Arena), where the side was defeated by the Silver Ferns with the game attracting the current venue record for a netball international.

“We’re incredibly thrilled that there’s going to be a full house at RAC Arena for the final game of the Constellation Cup series this Sunday,” said Netball Australia CEO Marne Fechner.

“The atmosphere at games between the Samsung Diamonds and Silver Ferns is always electric and this is only going to be amplified with a capacity crowd in what is a brilliant venue.

“We hope that by bringing world-class netball to Perth, the next generation of netballers become inspired to follow their dreams,” concluded Fechner.

The 2019 Constellation Cup is the best of four games, where two games were played in New Zealand (Christchurch and Auckland) and two games in Australia (Sydney and Perth).

The Silver Ferns head into Sunday’s decider leading the series 2-games to one, with the winner to claim this year’s title as the Samsung Diamonds have a superior goal percentage.

The test match will be broadcast live around Australia on the Nine Network and overseas via television and the Netball Live mobile app.

The event is supported by the State Government, through Tourism WA and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

“It’s exciting news the final match in the 2019 Constellation Cup series will be played in front of a capacity crowd in Perth on Sunday,” said Western Australian Tourism Minister Paul Papalia.

“Netball fans have seized this incredible opportunity to witness Australia take on traditional rivals New Zealand which is sure to create an amazing atmosphere at RAC Arena.

“Spectators are in for an impressive display of exceptional netball skills and athleticism – I have no doubt this will be a game to remember.

“It is also a perfect way to promote WA to those who are out-of-state, with the game to be broadcast to interstate and international audiences.”

Doors open at 8.30am AWST with on-court entertainment to commence at 9.00am AWST ahead of the first centre pass. Public transport is included in the event ticket.
