Freeskiers from across the globe getting prepared for The Orage European Freeski Open By Swatch 2009 In Laax Switzerland


 

Riders from around the globe are getting ready to come to LAAX, Switzerland, and to join the 4th Orage European Freeski Open by Swatch from March 17 to 21, 2009. Just three weeks to go for Europe’s freeski season highlight and everything and everybody is in good shape. The invited riders list is filled with big names of the sport, the open riders were selected by a lottery these days and the hosting resort LAAX is offering best snow and weather conditions.

All open spots have been filled. More than 200 riders from 20 different countries registered online for the Slopestyle and Halfpipe competitions. Here are some more facts about the “Open Riders”:The registered riders are representing 20 nations from 3 continents, which are: Europe (AUT, BEL, CZE, DEN, ESP, FIN, FRA, GBR, GER, GRE, HUN, ITA, NED, NOR, SUI, SWE), Northamerica (CAN, USA), Australia and New Zealand


Most requests to participate in Europe’s flagship freeski event were recieved by riders from Switzerland (21 %), Norway (13 %) and France (13 %).83 % male and 17 % female riders intended to enter the competitions.65 % of the registered riders are between 17 and 21 years old.With 14 % „Aries“-riders are leading in the zodiac signs statistic.


Those riders who make it through the open qualifications will have the chance to compete in the semi finals with the world’s top riders, and to surprise with outstanding performances also in the finals of the European Open. Among the seeded female  freeskiers are Virginie Faivre (SUI) and Sarah Burke (CAN).
