….and are planning to attend a sailing clinic and competition called the Sundance Cup at Texas, where Liz Baylis, one of the best coaches in the world,  is conducting clinics for Match Racing from the 17th to 21st March,2009. They  feel that it would be a good practice session for all of them before they proceed to attend the Nations Cup in Brazil as representatives of the Asia Region from the 23rd to 28th March 2009.

Four promising young ladies make up India’s First Women’s Match Racing (Yachting) Team

On a long term basis the team is trying to get a sponsor to spend a modest amount on India's First Women's Match Racing (Yachting) Team. They are also the winners of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Nations Cup Regional Finals Asia 2008 which was held in Mumbai from the 12th Oct to the 19th Oct 2008 organized by the Match Racing Association of India, which is affiliated to the Yachting Association of India. They will now be representing Asia at the World Nations Cup Finals to be held at Brazil in March 2009 and will be competing among the top 10 countries of the World. In the just concluded Regional Finals they completely decimated Thailand's Men's Team! They have the potential to win medals for India.

They have been selected and participated in the Busan Cup Match Racing Event which was held from October 28th to November 2, 2008. This has the distinction of being the First Women's World Class Match Race in Asia in Busan, South Korea. Only 11 teams have been invited to compete and this is the first time an Indian Women's Team took part in the event. After beating China and Korea they were placed 9th. Quite an achievement for first time participants. The team comprises of Rohini Rau (Chennai), Alekhya Sudam (Hyderabad), Pallavi Naik, Ayeshya Lobo and Dhanya Pilo (all from Mumbai).

The team also took part in the Mumbai International Match Race 2008 held at Chowpatty, Mumbai from the 23rd to 30th January, 2009.

The girls will have a chance to participate in the 2012 Olympics as Women's Match Racing is part of the Asian Games and the Olympics.

They race in huge 24 feet Yachts called the J 24 class. This is a very spectator friendly Regatta as they compete with only 2 Yachts at a time.

Alekhy Sudam has been sailing in the National Laser Radial Class Regatta which is held in Hyderabad around August every year since the age of twelve. She also won the Bronze in 4.7 Laser Class, Girls category in the year 2007. The competition is conducted annually by the Laser Class Association of India and the Yachting Association of India which is affiliated to the Indian Olympic Association, International Sailing Federation and Asian Sailing Federation.
