The superstar of the 6th ITTF World Junior Championships is China’s CAO Lisi. The 17 year old Chinese won all the events she played. After gold with China in the Team event, CAO won the Mixed Doubles event yesterday as well as the Girls’ Doubles and the Singles event today.
CAO won the final 4-0 against Germany’s Amelie SOLJA. The Chinese U18 world number 7 was completely superior. Only in the first game SOLJA came close eventually losing 12-14.
Only an Intermediate Station on the Way to the Top
“This title helps me to have more confidence for further competitions,” an ambitious CAO Lisi was quoted after the final.
Her German opponent was not looking for any excuses. Asked about the fact that she had to play two completely different styles of play in the semi-final and the final match today, the 18 year old said: “I don’t think it was a disadvantage. CAO just played faster.”
