Former European 800m indoor champion Yordanova dies

Bulgaria’s 1973 European Athletics Indoor Championships women’s 800m champion Stefka Yordanova has died in Burgas at the age of 64 on Sunday.


Yordanova crossed the line in Rotterdam in 2:02.65, a world indoor best as indoor world records were not recognised at that time.


Her time as a European best last just one day short of a year until Poland’s Elzbieta Katolik ran 2:02.38 in the following year’s 1973 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Göteborg.
