Fordham Selected to Play in the Postseason WNIT

For just the second time since the NCAA adopted women's basketball as a sponsored sport, the Fordham Rams will be playing past their conference tournament. These historic Rams have been selected to participate in the 2013 Postseason WNIT, the 64-team tournament widely acknowledged as the second most prestigious in college basketball.

The Rams will open up action on Thursday, March 21st, when they host the Black Knights of Army in the Rose Hill Gym. Game time has not been set yet, but will be announced sometime on Tuesday, as will further details about the match up.

This marks the Rams' first appearance in the WNIT and the first in a postseason tournament since 1994, when Fordham made its only appearance in the Big Dance. The Rams lost to number one seeded Penn State, 94-41, in that game.
Fordham's 24-8 mark in Coach Stephanie Gaitley's second year at the helm rewrote the program's record books in a number of ways. The team recorded it's highest win total since 1978-1979, more than doubled its highest ever win total in the Atlantic 10 and advanced past the quarterfinals of the A-10 Tournament for the first time since joining the conference nearly two decades ago.

Individually four Rams earned All-Conference honors, a school record. The Atlantic 10 named Erin Rooney to its First Team, Marah Strickland to the Second Team, Arielle Collins to the All-Defensive Team and Samantha Clark to the All-Rookie Team.

Winners of 17 of their last 20 games, Fordham will host an Army team that finished the regular season with a Patriot League-best 22-7 record before suffering a shocking defeat to Colgate in the opening round of the conference tournament. Historically, the Rams and Black Knights are no strangers, as the two New York teams have played 23 contests since the late 1970s. Fordham holds a 15-8
