The Brazilian pair beat Yue Yuan - Zhang Wenwen from China, after winning all the other matches even without losing one set. They shared 9,000 US dollars after overwhelming the home-favored pair 21-15, 23-21. Vieira said after winning the gold medal: "We are very glad to win this Challenge and would like to thank the organizer and the volunteers for providing excellent conditions for the competition. We enjoy here very much."
Thai duo Kamoltip Kulna/Yupa Puklongploy overcame the second set slump to beat Swiss Isabelle Eusabeth Klara Forrer/Sarah Schmocker 21-14, 18-21, 15-12 in the third place match.
The FIVB Beach Volleyball Director, Angelo Squeo, was in Beijing as Technical Supervisor and checked every detail of the venue that is going to host in 2008 the fourth Olympic competition on the sand. "This was the first Test Event for Beach Volleyball one year before the Beijing Olympics and we could simulate the situations of the real Olympic Games, including weather conditions, working staff and judging, etc. We succeeded in doing that, and I would like to say that this is the best venue I've ever seen in my life. I'm sure it will be a great show in Olympic Games."
However, many things have to be improved in Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground before 9th August 2008, when the first serve on the same court will start the challenge for the gold medals. Beach Volleyball, as Volleyball, has been one of the sports most liked by the TV audience during the last Olympic Games, and one of the best sellers of tickets. Obviously, the sand court in the heart of Beijing is already in the spotlight, with huge expectations of success.
This FIVB Challenger was one of the 42 Test Events planned for Beijing Olympic venues to assess preparations for the August 8-24 Games next year.
