Fanzone at Borehamwood for FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup Semi-Final

Arsenal Ladies are urging fans to come down to Borehamwood to be part of an exciting afternoon of FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup semi-final action, when they face Birmingham City Ladies on Sunday 11th October, KO 3.00pm.

The showpiece match comes at the end of The FA Girls’ Football week; a programme aimed at encouraging more education institutions, clubs and community groups to run female-specific football sessions.

In 2014, more than 2,000 people took part in the sessions across 80 education institutions. It was hoped that around 5,000 girls and women would get involved this year however The FA have tripled their target with 16,000 female players getting involved.

England and Arsenal Ladies defender Alex Scott said: “It’s great to see that there is a new week dedicated to getting more girls to play football.

“Anything that gives people the opportunity and confidence to try football is really important.

Girls’ Football week opportunities continue at Borehamwood where prior to seeing the two teams in action,  5-16 years old are invited to take part in a FREE, interactive fanzone, in association with Continental Tyres. Girls and boys will have the chance to have a go at a number of games that include Batak Boards, a speed cage, a target shoot inflatable plus a new trailer that houses digital stations and the FA WSL and Cyprus Cup trophies. Leading freestyler Charlotte Lade-Rogers will be leading a freestyle workshop and to enhance the fan experience, there will also be music, hair braiding and face painting, all of which will take place outside the stadium before kick-off.

The fanzone starts at 1:00pm with the loveable FA WSL mascot Berry the Bear in attendance, along with Arsenal Ladies mascot, Gunnersaurus. The event is being run in partnership with Hertfordshire County FA and Hertsmere Council.

Arsenal Ladies will be looking to reach the final for the fifth year in a row, and avenge last year’s defeat in the showpiece game, which was won by Manchester City, who defeated Arsenal 1-0, with the winning goal coming from Izzy Christiansen.

This season’s FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup Final will be played at AESSEAL New York Stadium in Rotherham.

Tickets for The Final, which will take place on Sunday 1 November (3pm KO), are currently on sale at http://www.rotherhamunitedshop.co.uk/events.aspx<http://www.rotherhamunitedshop.co.uk/events.aspx> It will be the last game of The FA WSL season.

Tickets are priced £5 for adults and £2.50 for children. A family ticket (two adults and two children) is available at £10 while group booking and Charter Standard club discounts also apply.
