ESP – Angolans no match for European juggernauts Spain

PALENCIA (FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women) – Angola suffered a heavy defeat to Spain on Sunday at the Torneo Palencia.

In a friendly between two sides that will play at June’s FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women in Madrid, the Spanish romped to a 71-39 victory.

Isabel Sanchez had 12 points for a Spain team that won for the third straight time in a week.

Evaristo Perez’s side had earlier defeated the Czech Republic in two friendlies.

Amaya Valdemoro did not play again, though. Spain’s EuroBasket Women 2007 MVP is resting the calf injury that plagued her all season with CSKA Moscow in Russia.

Nuria Martinez also sat out for the second consecutive game.

Angola got 16 points from Nacissela Mauricio.

The Africans are in Group B at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament with the Czech Republic and Argentina while Spain are in Group C with Brazil and Fiji.

Five places for the Beijing Games are up for grabs.
