ESP – Torrens upbeat about Spain’s chances of reaching London Olympics
SALAMANCA (2012 London Olympics/EuroBasket Women) - Alba Torrens is hoping she and her Halcon Avenida teammates who also represent Spain can ride the momentum of their EuroLeague Women Final Four triumph to a berth at the Olympics.
The side that wins the EuroBasket Women in Poland will book a place at the London Games while those that finish second through fifth will earn spots at next year’s FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
"I think the national team has done an excellent job in recent years,” she said.
“I believe we will qualify for the Olympics.
“We have an opportunity this summer with the EuroBasket and if not, we can still qualify through the pre-Olympic tournament.
“I believe we can aspire to the highest.”
Torrens, 21, made her Olympic debut at the Beijing Games in 2008.
She was voted MVP of EuroLeague Women Final Four after Avenida ended the reign of Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje by beating the four-time defending champions in the Final.
