England captain Kate Walsh sustained an injury in yesterday’s Champions Trophy showdown with Australia in Sydney whilst defending a corner. The ball went up in the air and goalkeeper Beth Storry cleared from above her head with her glove, making contact with Walsh just below her left eye.
England’s captain left the field temporarily to receive treatment but returned to play in the remainder of the match. England manager Richard Beer today commented “Kate is fine. She has three stitches and is sporting a black eye, but otherwise she is good.”
Kate will be fit to play in England’s final two matches of the Champions Trophy tournament. They take on China in their final pool match at 02:05BST on Saturday and will then play in their classification match on Sunday morning.
