England women’s cricket team win ‘Women in Public Life Award’


The England women’s cricket team tonight won the title of ‘Sports Team of the Year’ at the 2010 Women in Public Life Awards.


England captain Charlotte Edwards was presented with the award by Olympic and World champion athlete Sally Gunnell ,OBE, at an awards ceremony designed to highlight and reward the achievements of women in business, the arts and politics. 


Edwards , who was accompanied by pace bowler Isa Guha and batswoman Lydia Greenway, received the award in front of an audience which included some of the country's leading businesswomen and women MPs.


A judging panel of senior women in business and Olympic athlete Christina Ohuruogu selected the England team from a shortlist which also included triathlete Aileen Morrison and endurance runner Nicola MacLeod in the category of Sports Women or Sports Team of the Year. 


Charlotte Edwards said: “I am delighted to accept the Sports Team of the Year Award on behalf of the England women’s cricket team. We have achieved so much as a team and this reflects the hard work and commitment of all the players and management. I would like to thank them and hope that our achievements inspire even more women and girls across the country to get involved in cricket.”
