England U21 hold Scotland U21 to a 0-0 draw

HONOURS were even in the first of England Under-21 Women’s matches against
Scotland, with Friday’s clash at Peffermill Playing Fields in Edinburgh ending
goalless.

England enjoyed the better of the match and created several good chances from most areas of the pitch, but they couldn’t convert those chances into goals as theScottish defence - coupled with some stray shooting - ensured no goals would be scored.

It was the first time the Under-21 have been together since their two-match trip to France, where they notched up 7-1 and 6-0 victories in Lille. But Scotland proved a much stiffer test.

“We only arrived yesterday and trained once last night before the game, so it was much more about the team’s performance than the result,” said Team Manager Naomi Jones.

“You could tell that we haven’t played much hockey together recently, but there were signs of good structure, and we created a lot of chances, but just didn’t take them.

“But overall we’re not disappointed as the team dug in and played well, and we
look forward to the next match tomorrow, where hopefully we can score some
goals.”
