England has named a strong side to defend the team title at the Welsh Open 54-hole Strokeplay Championship at Newport Golf Club on May 5 and 6.
The three players are all members of the English Ladies’ Golf Association’s Performance Squad. They are English strokeplay champion Liz Bennett (Brokenhurst Manor) (left), English girls’ champion Rachel Jennings (Izaak Walton) (below left), and Danielle Montgomery (Lambourne) (right), who was the top pre-qualifier for the MFS Women's Australian Open. The reserve is Ellie Givens (Blackwell Grange) (below right).
England had a clean sweep at last year’s championship, winning the team event and capturing the first three places on the individual leaderboard. Altogether, seven English players were in the top 10.
