The team, who aim to win the title for the first time since 1993, eased into the championship flight of the top eight teams who play for the medal positions. England’s first match is against Belgium for a place in the semi-finals.
Team captain Jenny Clink remarked: “It’s been a fantastic team effort so far. We have overcome the first important hurdle, which is to qualify in the championship flight. It’s onwards and upwards from here.”
Yorkshire’s Rachel Bell (Ganton) again led the team scoring with her second round of one-under par 71. The other England results were: 73 Melissa Reid (Chevin); 75 Jodi Ewart (Catterick), Florentyna Parker (Royal Birkdale); 76 Naomi Edwards (Ganton); 79 Kerry Smith (Waterlooville). The best five scores counted in each of the two qualifying rounds.
The top flight qualifiers are: Spain 706, Sweden 722, England 733, Germany 734, Italy 742, Belgium 744, Finland 751, Wales 752. Scotland, who also scored 752, head the second flight.
The quarter-finals are: Sweden v Finland, England v Belgium. Germany v Italy, Spain v Wales. In flight two, Scotland will play Slovenia.
