SLOUGH GET POYNTON ADVANTAGE…
The Women’s Premier Division took an interesting twist when second bottom Poynton scored three goals for only the second time this season and, perhaps more importantly, kept their first clean sheet against second placed and local rivals Bowdon Hightown. Three second half goals from Katie Maltman, Cath Linaker, and Phillipa Jones went without reply to keep Poynton’s survival dreams alive, whilst also significantly narrowing the chances of Bowdon’s title hopes. Slough, on the other hand, raced to their thirteenth win of the season thanks to their three “S’s”; two from Alex Scott, and one from each of Jane Smith and Chloe Strong, Old Loughtonians their fallen opponents. The result at Poynton may have Chelmsford looking over their shoulders after they lost 3-1 away at Olton and West Warks. Clifton left Ipswich just a point clear of Chelmsford in seventh place thanks to Carla Dunnett’s 52nd minute winner. Canterbury and Ipswich shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at Polo farm.
