England Hockey is to join forces with Centrica plc to manage its information flows more effectively and strengthen communication with its members as it prepares for the 2012 Olympics.
Centrica will replace the current mix of databases and build a customised IT system to enable the sports governing body to streamline its operations and help launch its new personal membership scheme.
It will set up a unique Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to help do this under a project spearheaded by Nicola Dawson who has been seconded as Project Manager by Centrica for two years.
The initiative is a collaboration between sport and business under the British Olympic Association’s (BOA) partnership programme whereby national governing bodies of Olympic sports receive support from FTSE100 companies to help them modernise their governance structures and incorporate business principles into their work.
England Hockey is Great Britain’s ‘nominated country’ for delivering its Olympic programmes.
The proposed CRM system will enable the sport to manage its data more effectively, improve its communications with its members and will provide the capability to introduce England Hockey’s proposed new personal membership scheme.
Commenting on the Centrica partnership Philip Kimberley, Executive Chairman of England Hockey, said “We are delighted that Centrica has offered their support to us as this project is crucial to improving the way we manage our information and communicate with our member clubs and the wider hockey family”.
Simon Henderson, Business Partnership Manager at Centrica, said: “The fact our expertise in IT systems is being utilised in the run up to London 2012 to support one of the key team sports at the Olympics is a proud moment for us and we wish the team all the success in 2012.
Centrica is the latest blue chip company to pledge their support to England Hockey, joining sponsors Man Group plc, Slazenger and Qatar Airways.
