England Hockey League-Reading beat Sutton Coldfield
A hat-trick from GB and England ace Alex Danson helped Reading beat Sutton
Coldfield 6-0 and stay top of the Investec Women's Hockey League Premier
Division on Saturday.
Danson's opening goal helped the hosts to a 4-0 lead at half time, with
other scorers being Dirkie Chamberlain, Becky Halle and Leah Wilkinson.
To their credit, Sutton Coldfield tightened up their defence after the
break, but Danson still bagged two more to seal the win.
Surbiton move up to third with a 3-1 win over University of Birmingham.
Rebecca Herbert got them off to the perfect start, tucking the ball past the
Birmingham goalkeeper after 10 minutes. An own goal on 26 minutes made it
2-0 to Beeston.
Birmingham picked up in the second half with Faye Curran pulling one back,
but just three minutes later Georgie Twigg put the game out of reach with
A Suzy Petty hat-trick fired Beeston to a win on the road as they beat Olton
and West Warwickshire.
Petty opened the scoring on 23 minutes, slotting home from a corner. Fifteen
minutes later, she doubled Beeston's lead, again from a corner. And she
completed her hat-trick with a penalty stroke in the second half as Phoebe
Richards and Erica Sanders also got their names on the score sheet.
Canterbury are still second in the table but are looking over their
shoulders after drawing 2-2 with Leicester.
Canterbury were leading at the break thanks to a strike from Eliza Brett.
Vanessa Hawkins cancelled that goal out on 52 minutes before Nikki Kidd
restored Canterbury's lead. But just three minutes later, Hannah Fair struck
from a corner to draw the match.
Bowdon Hightown could have moved ahead of Clifton with a victory today but
they stay one point below after the two sides played out a 2-2 draw.
Tina Cullen opened the scoring on six minutes before Clifton took the lead
through goals from Els Mansell and Harriet Peace. But on 50 minutes, Nat
Wray scored the equaliser for the home side.
Buckingham manage to stay top of the Investec Conference West despite losing
out to second-placed Slough.
Leanne King scored the only goal of the game for Slough to put them level on
points with Buckingham. However, Buckingham boast a far superior goal
difference having scored 21 goals and conceding only three in six games.
University of Durham remain top of the Investec Conference North with a 4-2
win away to Ben Rhydding. Second from bottom Ben Rhydding put up a good
fight in the first half. Rachel Doherty and Eleanor Trafford were on target
for the home side with Alice Toynton and Ellen Paterson hitting back to make
it 2-2. But a double from Philippa Lewis in the second half saw Durham take
