Jill Scott insists England will guard against complacency when they take on Turkey in their second World Cup qualifier on Thursday.

The Three Lions go into the game on the back of a comfortable 6-0 win over Belarus at the weekend.

The Turks are ranked 65th in the world but Scott says England will not turn up to Portsmouth’s Fratton Park expecting to win.

The midfielder explained: “We will go into the game the way we did against Belarus – focused on getting three points.

“We will not underestimate any team in our group and we know we are not entitled to win any game.

“We played well against Belarus. It was important to get the win but I thought we played some really good football, we passed it around well and we created a lot of chances so we need that same mentality again on Thursday.”

Scott continued: “It was good to put in a performance like that after the Euros and the early goals helped us settle. We needed to get back to winning ways as soon as possible and hopefully we can keep that up against Turkey.”

The 26-year-old came off the bench against Belarus, replacing hat-trick hero Karen Carney just after the hour mark and she praised Jordan Nobbs after the youngster took up Scott’s usual place in midfield.

Scott added: “I thought Jordan played really well on Saturday. She has had a great season at Arsenal and kept that up with England.

“She likes to get on the ball and drive forward and I’m sure she will win many more caps.”

England are aiming to qualify for their third straight World Cup and face another double header in October, against Wales and Turkey, while Ukraine and Montenegro complete the Group 6 line up.
